The French

Hello, today I want to talk about the French.  The reason is because ever since I moved to my new student house in the summer I have met a lot of people from the continent, mainly from various house parties, not just French but also Spanish, Greek and the odd Swede thrown in.

And what puzzles me is that there has always been a negative stereotype about the French and how the English and French don’t get along.  But the French people I have met recently have all been very nice people, which has led me to question this negative stereotype I have been taught.

Ok, maybe the French people I have met are all from a small isolated section of the French population, after all they have chosen to come over to England for various reasons and I’m guessing they wouldn’t have come here if they hated the British.

So if I went over to France and spoke to a more people I would be able to get a more diverse perspective of the French and their opinions of the British, but being a poor student I really can’t afford to go over to France anytime soon.

Maybe next year if I get some money I will go over to France to further my research into French – English relations.

But anyway, I’d really like to know your opinion on this matter.  Are you a fanatic French hater, or do you adore all that is French.  Let me know via a comment, don’t forget to give your reasons.

Many thanks, love you all.

Oh, one thing I remember in particular that night, I was talking to one French bloke who was explaining to me how the accents from the southern parts of England differ from the northern parts and how people in the south pronounce their Us as As.  What he actually said was “in the north people say funny, in the south people say fanny”.  I tried to explain to him that fanny meant something totally different.  I’m not sure if he understood what I was trying to say to him, he was very drunk, however he did start shouting the word fanny a lot, I decided to move on and talk to the next person.
